A Manifesto for Calm Systems

1 June 2026

Technology should work quietly in the background so people can focus on what matters. For wellness practitioners, this means fewer notifications, simpler workflows, and systems that actually reduce cognitive load.

Principle 1: Restraint over abundance

Before adding a new tool, ask: what existing tool could do this job? The answer is often surprising.

Principle 2: Defaults matter

Most people never change default settings. Design your systems so the defaults are safe, private, and efficient.

Principle 3: Human first

Every system decision should pass one test: does this make life better for the person using it? If the answer is no, reconsider.
